January 2019

Radyvylivmoloko brief market review.
Trends in the dairy market in Ukraine.

General Information

Ukrainian dairy market recovers after long holidays. The stability period has passed, in
February we should count on changes, although they are unlikely to be drastic. In Ukraine, new restrictions on the export of Ukrainian analog cheese to (through) Belarus. It seems that the current restrictions are more serious than the previous ones and there is no longer any certainty that the problem will be solved soon.

Raw milk - trends

The raw milk market of Ukraine entered the phase of price “decline” already in the second half of December, but this factor has practically no effect on the average purchase price.
For the time being, processors prefer to revise the cost of raw milk only to large farms and holdings, while the prices of medium and small farms, as well as the individuals remain unchanged. The average price from farms in January was 0.35 USD per kg.

Butter

For the Ukrainian butter market in January is characterized by the strengthening of prices, both domestic and export. This is due to several factors: the positive situation on the world market, the ability to sell in the EU, the reserves in the CIS countries have been exhausted, the reduction in the production of analog cheese. Butter with a fat content of 72.5% is exported for 3500-3700 USD per ton. Butter with a fat content of 82% is sold on average 3900-4400 USD per ton.

Casein

In winter, several plants are engaged in the release of this product, and only one offers more or less significant volumes. In general, the production of casein in 2019 is likely to be much less than last year. In 2018 in Ukraine was dried casein on a record volume of many years - 7.4 thousand tons.

Our forecast for January

In February, the raw milk supply in Ukraine usually increases and exporters should process it. Experts promise higher export prices for butter and dried milk products this year. This factor increase competition in the raw milk market. The butter price will be strengthened in February and not so much under the influence of the world market situation, as due to the expected reduction in its production by cheese producers.
