General Information

Winter did not leave Ukraine in March, it was cold and a lot of snow. In March this year, due to the Easter, a lot of people were not eating animal food, therefore, the dairy products consumption decreased. But, the expected raw milk price decrease did not
occur. Ukraine almost  stopped exporting analog cheese (to Russia).

Raw milk trends

In general, in March, the raw milk market was stable. Average price practically did not change, it was in the range of 0,33-0,34 USD / Kg. In Ukraine, politicians are talking about dairy sector support but it looks like it is still far from real actions.

Butter

Butter was the basis of the export in March. Butter with a fat content of 72.5% is exported for 3600 USD per ton. Butter with a fat content of 82% is sold on average 4150 USD per ton. To the European Union countries such butter can be sold by 4700 USD per ton. Most popular export direction for butter was North Africa.

Casein

In Ukraine, the casein season began. We also started producing casein in March. The price for casein was close to 5500 USD per ton. In February, Ukraine produced 162 tons of casein.

Our forecast

The April will be the beginning of a warm season in Ukraine, which means more raw milk. Producers will start producing more casein compared to March. The casein price is likely to decrease.
It is expected that raw milk price will also decrease. Even though it will be high season, experts say that Butter price should not decrease but we believe that some decrease will occur. The main, unexpected factor on the market is the uncertainty on Analog
cheese export (to Russia), - if it will be stopped completely, the market will change significantly (some large companies can stop production).
